Laser Vision Correction Consultation

We provide all pre-op testing to determine if you are a good candidate for refractive surgery, help determine the best procedure for you as well as provide your post-operative care. We will work closely with your surgeon so you have the best possible outcome.

  • Not all individuals are good candidates for refractive surgery so determining if you are truly a good candidate is the first step. Individuals with certain prescriptions, corneal issues, severe dry eye or other health problems may not be a good candidate for surgery or may be a candidate for one type of surgery, but not another.
  • Additional testing is needed prior to refractive surgery. One such test is a cycloplegic exam, in which eye drops are instilled into the eyes to relax the focusing muscle. This allows us to get a reading of your prescription with your focusing muscle relaxed and compare it to your prescription when the muscle is active. Ideally, we want both prescriptions to be very similar. The side effects of the cycloplegic exam include blurred vision at near and increased light sensitivity for several hours afterwards.
  • Once we confirm you are a good candidate, we will determine which type of refractive surgery would be appropriate for you. This is done on a case-by-case basis and is determined by evaluating several factors such as your prescription, corneal curvature and thickness measurements, health and expectations.
  • After surgery, you will need to take eye drops to prevent against infection, help decrease inflammation and to keep the eyes lubricated. Post-op appointments help to ensure you are healing as expected as well as to adjust your medications to ensure you get the best possible outcome.
